Welcome to my new blog Life of Brit! A place for me to share my favorite travel experiences, photography, inspiration and experiences as a first-year English teacher in South Korea and beyond.
To say my 2017 has been a bit chaotic, would be an understatement. I’ve recently quit my job, left my lovely home in Madison, WI and explored Spain for the past 3 weeks with my best friend – what could be better? (Spain posts coming soon by the way…stay tuned!)
And tomorrow, I’m off to South Korea! As soon as I land, I’ll be whisked off to an intensive 10-day training orientation in Busan and then bused to my new home in Daegu to begin teaching…no time will be spared!
So why South Korea?
Because I’m addicted to travel, amateur photography, and new places. While in college, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to study abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark and explore a good chunk of Europe – an experience that amplified my love for exploration from what it was to a level of addiction.
After I moved home to finish my last year of college, I knew I wasn’t quite done with a life overseas. However, after I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I had hefty student loan payments on their way and essentially no money to my name. I had no choice but to put my dream aside to begin paying down my student debt and saving as much as I could for future travels.
Fast forward 2.5 years and the itch to move abroad became too strong to resist. I had enough in savings, I felt I’d gained enough valuable professional experience, and I began to feel like it was time to actually follow my dreams.
Thus, the idea to teach abroad began to form. After thorough research, I knew South Korea was my next destination. Having the ability to teach in a prestigious education system, receive amazing benefits as a TEFL teacher, and explore a new part of the world was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. So, I’ve packed my bags, said my tearful goodbyes and am on my way to South Korea!
