Sharing is caring!

If you’ve always dreamed of living abroad but worry about money, teaching English is a fantastic way to fund a life of travel! And getting TEFL certified with iTTT TEFL is an affordable way to get started.

All teach abroad journeys start with checking your eligibility. Most hiring schools require teachers to have to be a native English speaker with a college degree and a high-quality TEFL certificate. Some countries may require you to have citizenship from an English speaking country too, like the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

For those in need of a TEFL certificate, the courses at ITTT TEFL can help you get the best start in the exciting world of teaching English, at an affordable price. They’ve been in the biz of training prospective teachers to lead a classroom with confidence and find stellar jobs worldwide for over 20 years.

As a TEFL certified teacher myself who’s taught in South Korea, Vietnam, and online too , I know the ins and outs of TEFL. And I have the pleasure of partnering with ITTT TEFL to offer my readers a sweet, sweet discount of 20% off any of their TEFL courses.

But first, here’s what you need to know about ITTT TEFL (aka the International TEFL and TESOL Training.)

What is a TEFL certificate?

TEFL stands for “Teaching English as a Foreign Language” and is a type of certificate and training specifically for teachers who wish to go abroad or teach English online

In your research you might find different course names and acronyms thrown around like TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). While technically different, these courses boil down to pretty much the same thing and for the most part are universally accepted.

You’ve probably also come across numerous TEFL companies to choose from, as well as a variety of courses that are designated by the amount of hours, like a 120-hour TEFL course, or something crazy like a 550-hour.

Navigating all of the different options for getting certified to teach English can be insanely overwhelming. This ITTT review should help clear some things up for TEFL in general and share a bit about ITTT too!

Who can get TEFL certified?

Anyone can get a TEFL certificate! There are no restrictions other than you must speak English, and you must be at least 18 years old. There’s no need for any previous education, such as a teaching or college degree.

But it’s important to note that while anyone can get TEFL certified, not everyone is easily employable as an English teacher. You need to make sure you check what employers/ schools in the country of your choice are looking for in a teacher.

Most EFL jobs (English as a foreign language) require their teachers to be native speakers from a set list of countries (US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand), and many also require a college degree. You don’t want to take the time and spend the money getting certified if there aren’t job options open to you after you’re finished!

If you don’t have a college degree or you’re not technically a native speaker, it’s not impossible to find a teaching job either online or abroad; you just might have fewer options and will need to do some more in-depth research.

Is ITTT TEFL Legit? Who is ITTT?

Absolutely! International TEFL and Tesol Training has been offering TEFL certifications and support for well over 20 years, and they’ve helped thousands of teachers find job placements abroad. Because they’ve been in the business for so long, they have a vast network of recruiting partners to help place teachers in great jobs abroad. Each successful student receives an official transcript from the Paris College of International Education with their TEFL International Certificate.

ITTT TEFL Course Options

ITTT offers a diverse range of TEFL courses that conveniently fit most budgets, schedules, and interests. Take your pick from their many online classes (most affordable) to their in-class options (intensive 4-week programs), or their combined courses (the convenience of online with hands-on training).

Online TEFL Courses from ITTT

ITTT TEFL’s online courses are great for busy teachers trying to get TEFL certified without breaking the bank. All instruction is done online via lesson slides and video lectures that you can do throughout the week. You can choose to take an online course with or without the assistance of a personal tutor.

What’s great about their online TEFL courses is that they are super affordable (starting at just $199 for the 60-hour certificate) and can be completed while working full or part-time. That way, you can continue earning a steady income before pursuing the new and exciting adventure of teaching abroad or online.

ITTT’s most popular online class is the 220-hour Master Package, which includes their standard 120-hour TEFL certification course, the 50-hour specialized course in teaching business English (CTBE), and the 50-hour course in teaching English to young learners (CTEYL).

Which online ITTT TEFL certificate is best?

The 120-hour or 150-hour (120-hours online, 30-hours in-person teaching practicum) certificates are probably the best TEFL courses at ITTT for prospective teachers. Most employers abroad are happy with a certificate of at least 120-hours, and anything with an in-class component looks great.

I don’t really recommend anything less than 120-hours because it’s not often considered intensive enough. And while any course with more than 120 hours provides super intensive and valuable training, these longer courses aren’t always necessary either depending on your job goals.

Again, research is key here! Look around at your dream teaching positions and see what they require before deciding on a TEFL course.

iTTT’s In-Class TEFL Options

ITTT’s in-class TEFL courses run for four weeks and are offered at 50 different cities across the world in Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. It’s a great opportunity to learn and live in a place that you are considering teaching in and offers new teachers fabulous in-person instruction in an actual classroom setting.

The in-class TEFL courses are run by professionally qualified teachers who are there to offer support and feedback throughout the entire class. There are six main focus areas of ITTT’s in-person classes:

  1. Teaching practice: actual in-classroom teaching experience with the support and help of a trainer.
  2. Foreign language experience: a lesson in an unknown language so you can experience the typical struggles a new language learner faces.
  3. Language awareness: a brush-up lesson on grammar and phonology, and techniques for teaching these parts of speech to your students.
  4. Student profile: meetings with an individual student to practice building rapport and addressing individual learning needs, before creating a one-on-lesson tailored to that specific student.
  5. Teaching techniques: covers everything from lesson planning, time management, discipline, various situational teaching skills, games, and more.
  6. Materials project: hands-on experience utilizing resources on hand to create a fun, educational game that’ll be critiqued by the trainer.

iTTT’s Combined Online and In-Class TEFL Courses

The combined TEFL courses offer the convenience of online learning at your pace and schedule, before an in-class portion that gives you valuable in-person training and support with a qualified teacher.

ITTT TEFL offers three different options for the combined course, either a five, eight, or ten-day in-person class, with online coursework assigned beforehand. Not every ITTT training location has a combined course, but you can find it in places like Phuket, Barcelona, Rome, Bangkok, USA, Canada, etc.

    Hi Brit,
Thanks so much for your interesting and informative article on TEFL courses.

I really do like the look of the ITTT course but as a South African, the Rand/Dollar exchange is brutal.
How do I access your 20% discount link?

When I click it, the discount seems to disappear. I just go straight to the ITTT website which says I have 10% discount, and then that also seems to disappear at the checkout.
I understand if the discount has expired, but I want to check that I’m not doing something incorrectly.

    Take care,
    Michelle van Hemert

Hi Michelle! Sorry about the confusion! I believe the discount should be applied at checkout! So if you click my link, I don’t believe it’ll show the discount until the very last page when you’re entering in payment details. If you still have issues, please feel free to reach me my email at [email protected] and I can take a closer look to see what’s going on 🙂
