A TokyoTreat Review: The Gift of a Japanese Snack Subscription Box

TokyoTreat box review

Sharing is caring!

TokyoTreat is a snack box that delivers rotating Japanese goodies straight to your doorstep so you can taste the flavors of Japan from home.

One of my favorite parts of travel is the chance to try local dishes and snacks. I make it a mission to visit the grocery store in a new country at least once to raid the snack aisle! And Japan, by far, has some of the best snacks I’ve had the chance to try across my travels.

Sadly, it’s not possible for me to pop across the pond anytime I’m craving the newest flavor of KitKat or an exciting, unique bag of chips (I wish). But with a Japan snack box like TokyoTreat, I can savor the flavors of Japan without paying for a plane ticket.

TokyoTreat Box was kind enough to send a sponsored box, and here is my honest rundown of what you can expect.

What’s included in a TokyoTreat Box

The TokyoTreat box has a fun new theme and snacks that match every month. To give you an idea, September has a moon theme, and October is Halloween! But no matter the theme, every box comes with 15-20 total items that may include:

  • Japanese drinks
  • Rare KitKat flavors
  • Japanese candy and savory snacks
  • Japanese instant ramen
  • 20-page magazine with snack allergy info and cultural fun facts

What I got in my TokyoTreat Signature Box for September

My September box was themed as a “Moon Fest Snacktacular” as a nod to Tsukimi (月見), or moon-viewing festivals that sweep across the nation during fall. The festival dates depend on the moon but typically occur in September or October.

In celebration of this traditional festival, my box was brimming with moon-inspired and fall goodies like:

  1. KitKat Matcha
  2. Twist Corn BBQ Flavor
  3. Crunky Cookie Ball candy
  4. Caramel Popcorn
  5. Garlic Shrimp Japanese-Style Chips
  6. Premium Black Thunder Butter Flavor candy bar
  7. Banana Castella snack cake
  8. Cream Collon Lemon Flavor
  9. Golden Moon Senbei rice crackers
  10. Senbei & Peanut Snack Mix
  11. Full Moon Rabbit Senbei rice crackers
  12. Champon Noodles instant ramen
  13. Fried Squid Senbei rice crackers
  14. Mini Mochi Candy
  15. Mini Moonlight Cookies

Pros and Cons of TokyoTreat Subscription Boxes

What I loved

The TokyoTreat box was beautifully designed, and I am already excited to use it in future crafting projects. Not only that, but everything arrived very well packaged to ensure the snacks inside didn’t shift and shake during shipment. My box also arrived very quickly, which was super exciting!

Obviously, I was obsessed with the unique Japanese snacks that I’m still enjoying to this day – they are delicious.

What I wish

Overall, I don’t have anything negative to say about my TokyoTreat experience. The only thing I do wish, is that my month included a unique Japanese drink. I would’ve loved the chance to try a unique drink instead of the many rice cracker (Senbei) options they provided, especially since it’s one of the box’s main selling points.

Verdict: Overall, I recommend it! It’s a great treat or fun gift for anyone in your life who loves travel, trying new snacks, and Japanese culture.
