Where to Stay in Daegu: Best Hostels and Hotels

Where to Stay in Daegu, South Korea

Sharing is caring!

Curious where to stay in Daegu to have the best experience? This guide breakdown Daegu’s best districts and hotel recommendations.

As one of the biggest cities in the country, Daegu isn’t exactly a top travel destination in South Korea. This can make choosing Daegu’s best neighborhood and hotels difficult to find on the interwebs!

I’ve been living here nearly two years now though, and I thought I’d offer some insight into where to stay in Daegu and even offer some recommendations as far as accommodation. While I haven’t stayed in most of these myself (I do live here after all!), I know others who have or have looked into each place so you don’t have to!

Where to Stay: Daegu’s Neighborhoods

As a city, Daegu is split between 7 municipalities or districts: Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Dalseo-gu, Suseong-gu, Dong-gu, But-gu and Dalseong-gu.

Jung-gu: City center

Main attractions: City center, Seomun Market, Banwoldang and Jungangno Stations

When looking for accommodation, the city center near the Banwoldang Subway Station or Jungangno Station is the most convenient place to stay. Downtown Daegu is where you’ll find the city’s best restaurants, cafes and shopping. Plus, staying near Daegu’s two main metro stations makes getting around to other sights and attractions a breeze.

Suseong-gu

Main attractions: Suseong Lake, Daegu National Museum

Suseong is considered the “nicer” part of town and is called home by many of Daegu’s upper class. The district is best known for Suseong Lake, a charming area where people can dine out on terraces and take paddle boats out onto the water. I don’t recommend staying near the lake as it’s about 30 minutes by metro from downtown, but it is a nice area to stay for a less touristy experience.

Dong-gu

Main attractions: Daegu International Airport, DongDaegu Train Station

Dong-gu is a large district that makes up the northwestern part of Daegu. A small portion of Dong-gu borders downtown and the area is where you’ll find Daegu’s airport and major national train station, making Dong-gu a convenient place to stay for many reasons. Dong-gu is also likely the place to stay for slightly more affordable nightly rates.

Nam-gu / Dalseo-gu

Main attractions: Apsan, E-World and E83 Tower, Duryu Park

Nam-gu and Dalseo-gu are two districts to the south of Downtown Daegu. In Nam-gu is where you’ll find Apsan, the mountain that offers excellent views of Daegu from the observation deck. Dalsao-gu is a bit away from the main city streets, but it’s where EWorld and the E83 Tower are located for those interested in visiting Daegu’s amusement park.
